2011 Barefoot Artist Awards

We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s juried art festival. This year’s judge was David Cook who serves as the Associate Professor of Art at  Georgia Gwinnett College. David spent most of the day Saturday going from booth to booth talking to the artists at length to hear their story and understand their passion. David later confessed to Caryn McGarity, Barefoot executive director, “that this was one of the hardest decisions of my life, the caliber of artists at the festival is outstanding.”

Awards were handed out this evening at the Artist Reception on the Town Green after the festival closed for the day. It was a chance for the artists, sponsors and volunteers to go barefoot and enjoy the amazing weekend we are having.

Renowned New York Street Painting Artist Featured at Barefoot in the Park

April 27, 2011 – Duluth, GA.  Everyone attending the 7th Annual Barefoot in the Park, Fine Arts Festival is in for a amazing treat. The Barefoot Organizing Committee is excited to announce that the world renowned street painting artist, Anthony Cappetto, will be creating an original 3D painting during this year’s weekend festival. Anthony Cappetto’s visit to Barefoot is sponsored by the Georgia Gwinnett College Foundation. The college staff is thrilled to have the opportunity to partner in bringing this 3D master to the region.

Barefoot in the Park will kick-off this year’s festival with a Friday evening Art Walk to preview this year’s Artists Market and a chance to meet Mr. Cappetto. Attendees will also get the first glimpse of Cappetto’s sidewalk masterpiece.

An artist from New York City, Anthony Cappetto created large pastel works on paper for exhibitions in New York City from 1997 through 2000.  In 1999, on a trip to Italy, he saw pastel chalk art as street paintings and it was a natural evolution for his artwork.  Anthony has been active in street painting since 2001, as an artist participating in festivals/events throughout the US, Mexico, Italy, the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), and Japan.  Cappetto is a strong supporter of street painters and street painting festivals throughout the world as well as the founder of Art for After Hours and the co-founder of Innovative Street Painting Group, Inc., which includes ‘Blog Now on streetpainting.tv’ and the Streetpainting.tv video channel. Anthony has recently been a featured 3D street painter for exhibitions and festivals in Japan, South Carolina, New York State and New York City.

About Barefoot

The Barefoot festival was started by a dedicated group of business owners and citizens with a dream of bringing a new, quality arts experience to the region. With the strong support of corporate citizens, individuals and the City of Duluth they have grown this festival into one of the most popular Spring event in our area.

All proceed from Barefoot go to support arts education programs. Applications are submitted and scholarships are awarded yearly to students in both the visual and performing arts. The organization’s mission is even more important in today’s world, where arts education funding is being cut back.
